Cliché, too old, everyone has seen this and been there done that. But still, as a fan of these TV shows, no matter how many affairs I may have had or will have, I can never forget my first love. No person can say that they love watching TV shows and claim they have not seen F.R.I.E.N.D.S can gain my respect. Sorry.
The show by itself is not so great as the connection you make with the characters. Each person written and depicted spot on, each line enhancing the character's essence and each episode bringing out something new about each friend, I have hardly seen a show that matches these expectations.
On the risk of sounding dorky and socially awkward, I present you the best six-some of laughter, love and friendship.
Ross: Played by David Schwimmer, this character was the first one to be locked for the show. A person in love with love, he is the guy you would rely on when you need support. Struggling with his own love life, what with being married to a lesbian, Ross never ceases to spread laughter. He does not care even if that comes at his own expense. Also, he is a huge fan of dinosaurs, history, science and the moist-maker. Enunciating every word, he is the ultimate grammar-nazi of the group and hates when you're grammar is wrong.
Rachel: Daddy's spoilt girl, runs away from her wedding just because she fell out of love. Played by hollywood hearthrob Jennifer Aniston, she also doned the 'Rachel' hairstyle for the first time, obviously. A silly talentless girl at first, she finds her calling in fashion and does well in the field. And yeah, she plays Ross' love interest for the entirety of the series. Even after having a brain for fashion and such an intelligent boyfriend, she cannot get a couple of orders straight.
Joey: Like every almost every sitcom involving friendships, he is the ladies man of the group. Even today, Joey's "HOW YOU DOIN?" is considered the best pick up line of all times. Played by Matt LeBlanc, he can be the best friend when needed. He does not understand the world like everyone else but he knows how to be a damn good friend. On one hand, he may ask you to get his money converted into Alaskan dollars, while on the other hand, he will tell you not to dote over a specific incident 'cause soon it will be a moo point. And sorry, I forgot, he s the ultimate foodie and HE DOES NOT SHARE FOOD.
Phoebe: Lisa Kudrow has been in many shows and movies since, but none can compare her to her role of Phoebe buffay. Eccentric, flaky and sometimes, downright weird, she is somewhat an outsider of the group. Grown up on the streets, she has a tough demeanour and understands the world the best. She wields an acoustic guitar and plays at the gang's hangout place Central Perk. Her rendition of Smelly Cat has been considered the best lullaby by many a people. Recently, Taylor Swift herself sang the song at her concert along side Lisa.
Chandler: Joey's room mate, Ross' best friend from college and his future brother in law, Chandler played by Matthew Perry, according to me, is the best character ever made in the history of Sitcoms. Awkward, sarcastic and funny, this guy cannot pass up an opportunity of passing a comment or a sarcastic remark on any occurrence around him. He is awkward, hopeless and desperate for love. His romance stories, may it be Janice or Cathy or the girl with the wooden leg, have always been a source of great laughter.
Monica: Played by the girl who said the word 'Period' for the first time on national television, Monica Geller is played by Courtney Cox. Originally selected for the role of Rachel, she landed as Monica and she could not be better than this. Sister to Ross, Chandler's future wife, Rachel's high school best friend and Phoebe's former room mate, she is apparently the glue that holds the group together. She has partial OCD and is a great chef, she is like a mother of the group. Said that, she is also the kind of girl who would date her father's best friend, her father's best friend's son, her brother's best friend and a high school senior, do not judge her. She is a damn good person and can always be relied upon.
Other notable characters from the show would be Janice, Jack and Judy Geller, Nora Bing and Mike, but more on that later.
